Pure Barre

Pure Barre is the fastest, most effective, yet safest way to change your body.
In just 55 minutes you will achieve a full-body workout concentrating on the areas women struggle with the most: hips, thighs, seat, abdominals and arms. The Pure Barre technique is low-impact, protecting your joints by avoiding any bouncing or jumping. Each strength section of the workout is followed by a stretching section in order to create long, lean muscles without bulk. The technique works to defy gravity by tapering everything in and lifting it up!

Charleston Power Yoga

Charleston New Year’s premier heated power yoga studio offering a variety of vinyasa classes.

2. Learn how to cook

Has cooking always been something you wanted to learn?

This New Year’s, in Charleston, is the place to finally do it. Cooking at home means saving money and eating healthier. We have listed two places in downtown Charleston where you will learn from some of the best chefs in the area.

IN THE KITCHEN with chef Bob Waggoner

Join chef bob in his downtown Charleston showcase kitchen, where you will cook and laugh alongside him to prepare and enjoy a seasonal tasting menu inspired by the many farmers, fisherman, and artisans of the low country. Whatever your experience level, in these cooking classes chef Bob will teach you the tips and techniques to help you build your confidence in the kitchen. There will be no pressure, no recipes, or even dishes to wash at the end of the night! Just a fun and truly unique dinner party experience with every detail carefully crafted by chef Bob himself.

Cooking Classes at Zero George

Zero George offers cooking classes in their historic Kitchen House featuring a classic French enamel range. Learn to make lowcountry favorites as well as innovative new dishes and drinks to entertain your friends and family.

Enhancing the guest experience, an ongoing series of seasonal Create + Savor Packages have been created allowing an intimate, hands-on cooking class. Guests have an opportunity to create a range of traditional and contemporary dishes with Chef Randy Williams utilizing different recipes, techniques and styles.

Cooking classes are two hours and take place in the Zero George professional display kitchen in the original circa 1804 kitchen carriage house, which features a signature Lacanche French enamel range.

3. New activities to try

Charleston has some of the best weather almost all year round. This gives you the opportunity to take on new healthy outdoor activities for this new year. Here are some activities to get you started on the right foot for your New Year’s resolutions.

Whether it’s by the battery or by waterfront park. There are endless scenic areas this New Year in Charleston to go for a bike ride.

Rent or buy bikes at any of these local spots:

They have a variety of different bikes to rent such as, cruiser, hybrid, road, and tandem for low price rentals!

Paddle Boarding
Whether it’s Folly Beach, Sullivan’s Island or Shem Creek, paddle boarding rentals are offered by many watersport companies. Here’s a few to check out!

Charleston Paddle Board Co.

Coastal Expeditions
Coastal Expeditions offers you 2-hour sessions to teach you all the basics of paddling boarding so you be able to set off on your own by the end of the session!

Kayaking on the coast of Charleston allows for you to see unreal views of the city. Get a friend and rent out a double kayak for the day. Both Coastal Expeditions and Charleston Paddle Board Co. offer Kayak rentals and tours.

Running requires no money and only requires your two legs. Throw on a pair of running shoes and run down to colonial lake, the battery or even the Arthur Ravenel Bridge. Great way to get a workout in and not have to spend any money at the same time for this year’s New Year’s resolutions.

4. Buy from local farmers

Head to the farmers market every Saturday in Marion Square from 8am-2pm, support local business and eat organic!

Vegetable Bin – 98 Spring Street

A small little grocery store on king street that sells lowcountry goods and local produce from Boone Hall farms at affordable prices.

If you can’t make it to the farmers market in Marion Square on Saturdays, MUSC has its own farmers market at the Horseshoe on Ashley Ave and on Courtney drive behind the Memorial Hospital. The Horseshoe is open Friday and Courtenay Drive is open Wednesday, each from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

5. Find healthy spots to eat

Start your New Year’s resolutions in Charleston by eating well. Here’s a couple of places to get you started on track!

Healthy and bright. Verde offers salads and wraps with all local and seasonal ingredients. You can choose from their signature salad or wraps, or even choose to build your own.

Each day fresh ingredients are picked up for local organic farmers to produce their daily cold pressed juices, acai bowls, smoothies, sandwiches and salads. They’ve recently opened a market directly attached to their restaurant serving all organic and fresh food. They also have a new coffee bar inside that serves new menu items in addition to their other menu.

They offer a healthy diet including fresh: fruit, fish, rice, and vegetables, all sourced sustainably, and locally and organically when possible. No preservatives, no refinements, and no techniques that alter the qualities found in their natural ingredients.

Best known for being vegan and vegetarian-friendly. They offer smoothies, wraps, salads, pizza, nachos, all made with creative ingredients. They are best known for their vegan jazzy pizza which consists of mixed Daiya cheese, brown rice, black beans, bell peppers, mushrooms, mango salsa, avocado, goddess dressing and sweet & spicy vegan sauce. This place is a must try if you’re looking for a interesting and healthy twist for your New Year’s resolutions.
